Technology

PARIS is a new application based on 25 years of experience in system development for the Scandinavian insurance market. Main developing objectives has been to make a system that is:

  • Portable
  • Object oriented
  • Multi-tired
  • Flexible
  • Robust
  • Easy to maintain

To achieve portability and object orientation, Java with "pure" SQL is chosen as programming languages. That leaves the customer to choose the operating system and database of their choice. For NORIA as developers JAVA means focus on application development in stead of time consuming technical updates to follow steps decided by different platform vendors.

Our experience through implementation of different business lines at different clients has learned us where flexibility is most needed

  • Addition of attributes and tables in the data model
  • All kind of document production
  • Screen / panel layouts
  • Reporting tools

PARIS is therefore built around some special tools following the application:

  • A DataDictionary that automatically generates all necessary changes in the database and objects accessing the base.
  • A text component for building forms, which includes macros for fetching and manipulating data and data structures from anywhere in the data model.
  • A flexible PanelBuilder where different business lines and/or products are given a user interface according to the clients need and wish.
  • A flexible QuickReport tool including more than 1000 formulas for calculating different levels and positions of premiums, commissions, claims, ratios and payments.

PARIS is based on one common source code for all client installations. Due to the embedded flexibility in all system functionality, the common source code makes no restriction in building a client specific application.

The system is developed in Java and is tested by NORIA using JDK1.6 from Sun on Windows 2000/Windows XP workstations with Windows 2000 Server/Windows 2003 Server as server platform, on a SQL-Anywhere database. The system is also available on Oracle, and DB2 databases.
